i made my first action! it has taken me so long to get a b/w that looks the way I would like it to look, with dark chocolate on the black and a creamy vanilla on the white, that I played around a little and made my own action . . .

over at Kim Klassen Cafe, they are focusing on the fact that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." so, we are to find something that most people wouldn't think is beautiful and shoot it up-close so that others can see it's beauty.

this little guy meets me in the morning when i take the trash to the large curb can. from far away, not a pretty sight, but up-close, i think it is quite spectacular!

on april 30, 2011, riddled with cancer, my father took his last breath as he passed from this world into heaven. this picture was taken less than 10 months ago and is the last time our boys were able to play and be rambunctious with their papa. although i miss him and still feel like he is "hiding" somewhere, i will always treasure pictures like this that remind me what a vibrant, loving, fun, happy and a truly wonderful man (i could go on. . . and on) he was on this earth. i am so blessed to have had him as a father and that my children were able to have this precious time with him.

the rate at which the cancer overtook my daddy's flesh is astounding . . . take pictures, take LOTS of pictures, you just never know what could happen and that moment you just captured, with that one little click of your camera, can never be relived, never.

just to let you know . . . bees make terrible models . . . these little buzzeres where in absolutely no mood to have me interrupt their work for pictures. i actually had to shake the tree a few times to get them to fly to a new blossom so that i could find them again. eventually, they went to another tree and i went inside.

if you have followed my photography for any length of time, you will notice that i love eyes . . . i love the sparkle and usually try to make them the focal point of as many pictures as possible. when i saw these eyes, it was like Christmas in march. . . . a great big present for me! not only are her eyes layered with different colors and depth, but in almost every shot, the color changed!

it might feel like the middle of winter, probably because it is, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about spring. as a matter of fact, it makes me think of it more.

i just couldn't as for a better job! i just love it! one of the reasons i love photography so much is the people with whom i get to interact. i have clients who i have seen grow over the years and our friendship grows from that. then, i have friends who i also get to photograph. this absolutely gorgeous family is one of those. from the moment this beautiful woman and i met, we connected. the best part is that she is even so much more beautiful on the inside than the out, simply amazing.

another fall day for everyone in the south . . . stuck here in arizona, no fall days for us! true, it is fall, but we do not get the autumnal colors that sweep across the rest of the country. i'm so glad that i was able to get a glimpse of autumn last weekend and capture so many great colors.

murfreesboro is such a special place . . . i loved living there, oh so much. don't get me wrong, the actual town doesn't have a lot to offer in and of itself. however, the people make the town. i have never lived in a place with so many truly caring, loving, joyful, kind, and gentle people. this family epitomizes murfreesboro, from their spirit to their southern drawl . . . oh how i miss them all.

we had such a great time taking photos last weekend on the town square. we could not have asked for better weather and the fall leaves were gorgeous. i was fortunate enough to be able to take pictures of the amazing teacher each of our boys had for kindergarten and her entire family. i thoroughly enjoyed meeting each one of them. although we are saddened that we had to move and were not able to have our daughter in her class this year, we are blessed for the two years we did have with her. she is an absolutely amazing teacher and person.

I was blessed to be able to go back to Tennessee over the last weekend to reunite with a lot of friends and take many pictures of my fabulous clients! It was so good to be "working" again. I have missed shooting so much. Over time, this little business of mine will hopefully grow; for now, I am still looking for clients. I will always relish my times in Tennessee.

as of october 16, 2010, my wonderful husband and i have been married eleven years. they have been a wonderful eleven years resulting in many fond memories, and three beautiful and amazing children. they have not been perfect years as neither of us are perfect people nor have they all been easy years; but, a life of ease is promised, nor should it be expected, for any person, let alone a marriage which consists of two persons.

hands down, i'd marry him again! he is not only an amazing man, husband, father, he is my best friend. i admire him and so blessed to be a part of his life yesterday, today and for many more days to come.

The Home of The Red Rocks!

If you ever get an opportunity to go to Sedona, you should! It is absolutely breath-taking; as you drive up through the high desert, you see just a normal desert topography. Then, you drive around a mountain and see all these red rock jutting up from the ground! The are so majestic and like a little oasis in the middle of no where. We went up for a VERY quick trip yesterday (just drove up to have lunch with my aunt, uncle and cousin). I would have loved to have been able to stay longer and click, click, click away, but it did not fit into our extremely tight schedule. of beating the Phoenix rush hour We'll be back though! This is what my aunt and uncle get to see every morning. I took this standing on their driveway!

Many of your probably don't know this, and this probably isn't the "right" place to disclose this, but my dad was diagnosed with melanoma about 3 years ago. He has battled through this disease with so much dignity and character and peace, it is unbelievable! As his melanoma has invaded its way into his lymph system, the prognosis is not good. Currently, they are giving him a few weeks to a year to continue his journey on this earth. A few weeks ago, we were able to spend some time with him and my mom on the Oregon coast, one of his favorite places. I am not a big landscape photographer, but while we were there, I was taking some pictures of the kids and he said, "Karie, look! Would you get a picture of that?"

So I did.

This pictures will forever remind me of my hero, my dad.

This Chapter is Coming to an End

I am so sad to say, and so sorry that it is true, but our family will be moving from the area at the end of June. I warned you!

This little girl, whom I only met yesterday, has a special place in my heart and doesn't even know it! You see, about 15 months ago I had a miscarriage and we lost our 4th little blessing to heaven before we even had a chance to meet. One morning, a few days ago, I was lying in bed thinking that if our baby had made it to term, with a healthy delivery, our little blessing would have been about 9 months old. Then, later that day, yes the same day, I get an email for a photo shoot for this little girl who is, yes 9 months old. The time with this little girl was a little gift for me to enjoy a little bit of the blessing that was removed from our lives before I wished. The Lord is good! Thank you for sharing your daughter with me, if only for an hour or so, she is so precious. : )

Although I am not a BIG sweet person, I still love them. And, although I love cupcakes, a big ones are just too big for me. But, MINI cupcakes, just too yummy and for some reason, I'll eat 2 or three in a sitting, just because they are small, I guess.

Anyway, we made these for Easter and they were just too yum!

Oh, how I adore taking little kids' photos and this handsome little guy was no exception. I DO have to admit that he was a very busy little guy and literally scooted all over the place! I wish that I could have captured it; it was adorable! The cake was too funny and did not go the way either mommy or I expected, but adorable, non-the-less.

For me, one of my favorite parts of being a photographer is my return clients! I just adore getting to know people and then seeing them grow and change and know their personalities so that I can capture the their true nature. This little guy went to kindergarten with our oldest son. Now, I'm taking his 8 year pictures! Needless to say, with our three kids in the shadows, he had plenty of entertainment during our photo-shoot. My favorite are of him showing me his kung fu moves. He is pretty good, don't you think?

What a privilege for me! First I got to photograph this sweet little baby's mommy when this little princess was IN her mommy's belly. Then, I got to photograph her on the outside!

Is she adorable, or what! Totally worth the 9 months of waiting : )

Canvas Wraps

I have a new love . . . Canvas Wraps! They are so wonderful! I was so excited to get this one last week. It is quite large, 20 x17 and makes me smile every time I see it. I purchased it as a sample to show customers, what a good reason for me!
